Some Interesting Facts About Penguins

Penguins  are a group of flightless aquatic birds found predominantly in the southern hemisphere which spends half of their lives on the land and other half in the sea.

Here are some amazing facts about Penguins .


1.Almost all the species of penguin lives in the southern hemisphere except  one.The Galapagos penguin lives near the equator.(There are 17 to 20 penguin species .Extant number  of species is debated)

2.The Gentoo penguin are the  fastest penguin species   which can swim up to 22 mph.

3.Penguins breed in large colonies.Number of penguins in a colony  ranges from a few to thousand birds.

4.Little penguins (Edyptula Minor) is  the smallest type of penguin.It averages around 33 cm in height.

5.The tallest and heaviest  of all penguin species is Emperor Penguin .It weigh around   22-40 Kg and reach upto 122 cm in height.Emperor penguins can stay underwater for around 20 minutes at a time.
